Section 42 Contract Act 1872 :Devolution of joint liabilities -- When two or more persons have made a joint promise, then, unless a contrary intention appears by the contract, all such persons, during their joint lives, and, after the death of any of them, his representative jointly with the survivor or survivors, and, after the death of the last survivor, the representatives of all jointly, must fulfil the promise.

भारतीय संविदा अधिनियम, 1872 की धारा 42 का विवरण :  -  संयुक्त दायित्वों का न्यागमन -- जबकि दो या अधिक व्यक्तियों ने कोई संयुक्त वचन दिया हो तब यदि तत्प्रतिकूल आशय संविदा से प्रतीत न हो तो यह वचन ऐसे सब व्यक्तियों को अपने संयुक्त जीवनों के दौरान और उनमें से किसी की मृत्यु के पश्चात् उसके प्रतिनिधि को उत्तरजीवी या उत्तरजीवियों के साथ संयुक्तत: और अन्तिम उत्तरजीवी की मृत्यु के पश्चात् सबके प्रतिनिधियों को संयुक्तत: पूरा करना होगा।
