Section 1 Contract Act 1872 : Short title -This Act may be called the Indian Contract Act, 1872.

Extent, Commencement - It extends to the whole of India [The words "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir" omitted by Act 34 of 2019, s. 95 and the Fifth Schedule (w.e.f. 31-10- 2019)] and it shall come into force on the first day of September, 1872.

Saving - Nothing herein contained shall affect the provisions of any Statute, Act or Regulation not hereby expressly repealed, nor any usage or custom of trade, nor any incident of any contract, not inconsistent with the provisions of this Act.

भारतीय संविदा अधिनियम, 1872 की धारा 1 का विवरण :  -  संक्षिप्त नाम -- यह अधिनियम भारतीय संविदा अधिनियम, 1872 कहा जा सकेगा।

विस्तार, प्रारंभ -- इसका विस्तार सम्पूर्ण भारत पर है [The words "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir" omitted by Act 34 of 2019, s. 95 and the Fifth Schedule (w.e.f. 31-10- 2019)] और यह 1872 के सितम्बर के प्रथम दिन को प्रवृत्त होगा।

व्यावृत्ति -- इसमें अंतर्विष्ट कोई भी बात, एतद्द्वारा अभिव्यक्त रूप से निरसित न किए गए किसी स्टेट्यूट, अधिनियम या विनियम के उपबंधों पर व्यापार की किसी प्रथा या रूढ़ि पर अथवा किसी संविदा की किसी प्रसंगति पर, जो इस अधिनियम के उपबंधों से असंगत न हो, प्रभाव न डालेगी।
