Section 293 of CrPC 1973 :- 293. Reports of certain Government scientific experts - 

(1) Any document purporting to be a report under the hand of a Government scientific expert to whom this section applies, upon any matter or thing duly submitted to him for examination or analysis and report in the course of any proceeding under this Code, may be used as evidence in any inquiry, trial or other proceeding under this Code.

(2) The Court may, if it thinks fit, summon and examine any such expert as to the subject-matter of his report.

(3) Where any such expert is summoned by a Court and he is unable to attend personally, he may unless the Court has expressly directed him to appear personally, depute any responsible officer working with him to attend the Court, if such officer is conversant with the facts of the case and can satisfactorily depose in Court on his behalf.

(4) This section applies to the following Government scientific experts, namely :

(a) any Chemical Examiner or Assistant Chemical Examiner to Government;

(b) the Chief Controller of Explosives;

(c) the Director of the Finger Print Bureau;

(d) the Director, Haffkeine Institute, Bombay;

(e) the Director Deputy Director or Assistant Director of a Central Forensic Science Laboratory or a State Forensic Science Laboratory;

(f) the Serologist to the Government;

(g) any other Government Scientific Expert specified by notification by the Central Government for this purpose.

दंड प्रक्रिया संहिता 1973 की धारा 293 का विवरण :  -  293. कतिपय सरकारी वैज्ञानिक विशेषज्ञों की रिपोर्ट -- 

(1) कोई दस्तावेज, जो किसी सरकारी वैज्ञानिक विशेषज्ञ की, जिसे यह धारा लागू होती है, इस संहिता के अधीन किसी कार्यवाही के दौरान परीक्षा या विश्लेषण और रिपोर्ट के लिए सम्यक् रूप से उसे भेजी गई किसी सामग्री या चीज के बारे में स्वहस्ताक्षरित रिपोर्ट होनी तात्पर्यित है, इस संहिता के अधीन किसी जांच, विचारण या अन्य कार्यवाही में साक्ष्य के तौर पर उपयोग में लाई जा सकेगी।

(2) यदि न्यायालय ठीक समझता है तो वह ऐसे विशेषज्ञ को समन कर सकता है और उसकी रिपोर्ट की विषयवस्तु के बारे में उसकी परीक्षा कर सकेगा।

(3) जहाँ ऐसे किसी विशेषज्ञ को न्यायालय द्वारा समन किया जाता है और वह स्वयं हाजिर होने में असमर्थ है वहाँ, उस दशा के सिवाय जिससे न्यायालय ने उसे स्वयं हाजिर होने के लिए स्पष्ट रूप से निदेश दिया है, वह अपने साथ काम करने वाले किसी जिम्मेदार अधिकारी को न्यायालय में हाजिर होने के लिए प्रतिनियुक्त कर सकता है यदि वह अधिकारी मामले के तथ्यों से अवगत है तथा न्यायालय में उसकी ओर से समाधानप्रद रूप में अभिसाक्ष्य दे सकता है।

(4) यह धारा निम्नलिखित सरकारी वैज्ञानिक विशेषज्ञों को लागू होती है, अर्थात् :

(क) सरकार का कोई रासायनिक परीक्षक या सहायक रासायनिक परीक्षक;

(ख) मुख्य विस्फोटक मुख्य विस्फोटक नियंत्रक;

(ग) अंगुली-छाप कार्यालय निदेशक;

(घ) निर्देशक, हाफकीन संस्थान, मुम्बई;

(ङ) किसी केन्द्रीय न्याय संबंधी विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला या किसी राज्य न्याय संबंधी विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला का निदेशक, उप-निदेशक या सहायक निदेशक;

(च) सरकारी सीरम विज्ञानी |

(छ) कोई अन्य सरकारी वैज्ञानिक विशेषज्ञ, जो इस प्रयोजन के लिए केन्द्रीय सरकार द्वारा, अधिसूचना द्वारा विनिर्दिष्ट किया गया हो ।
