Section 55  Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996: 

Foreign awards when binding.—Any foreign award which would be enforceable under this Chapter shall be treated as binding for all purposes on the persons as between whom it was made, and may accordingly be relied on by any of those persons by way of defence, set off or otherwise in any legal proceedings in India and any references in this Chapter to enforcing a foreign award shall be construed as including references to relying on an award.

माध्यस्थम् और सुलह अधिनियम, 1996 की धारा 55 का विवरण : 

विदेशी पंचाट कब आबद्धकर होंगे-कोई विदेशी पंचाट, जो इस अध्याय के अधीन प्रवर्तनीय होगा उन व्यक्तियों पर, जिनके बीच उसे किया गया है, सभी प्रयोजनों के लिए आबद्धकर समझा जाएगा और तद्नुसार उस व्यक्तियों में से किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा भारत में किन्हीं विधिक कार्यवाहियों में प्रतिरक्षा मुजराई के रूप में या अन्यथा उस पर निर्भर किया जा सकेगा और इस अध्याय में विदेशी पंचाट के प्रवर्तन के प्रति किए गए किन्हीं निर्देशों का अर्थान्वयन ऐसे किया जाएगा मानो उसमें पंचाट पर निर्भर करने के प्रति निर्देश सम्मिलित है ।
