On 11th February, 2016, in the case of Tekan alias Tekram vs State of Madhya Pradesh (Now Chhattisgarh) [Criminal Appeal No. 884 of 2015] where the prosecutrix, a blind and an illiterate girl, was subjected to sexual intercourse on the promise of marriage, the Supreme Court while examining the issue relating to relief and rehabilitation of victims of rape, directed all the States and Union Territories to make all endeavour to formulate a uniform scheme for providing victim compensation in respect of rape/sexual exploitation with the physically handicapped women as required under the law taking into consideration the scheme framed by the State of Goa for rape victim compensation. So far as the instant case was concerned, the respondent-State was directed to pay a sum of Rs.8,000/- per month as victim compensation to the victim till her life time.
