Section 51 of IPC 1860:-“Offence” –“Oath” —
The word "oath” includes a solemn affirmation substituted by law for an oath, and any declaration required or authorized by law to be made before a public servant or to be used for the purpose of proof, whether in a Court of Justice or not.

“शपथ” के लिए विधि द्वारा प्रतिस्थापित सत्यनिष्ठ प्रतिज्ञान और ऐसी कोई घोषणा, जिसका किसी लोक-सेवक के समक्ष किया जाना या न्यायालय में या अन्यत्र सबूत के प्रयोजन के लिए उपयोग किया जाना विधि द्वारा अपेक्षित या प्राधिकृत हो, “शपथ” शब्द के अन्तर्गत आती है।
