Section 118 of IPC 1860:- Concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life -

Whoever intending to facilitate or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby facilitate the commission of an offence punishable with death or '[imprisonment for life]; [voluntarily conceals by any act or omission or by the use of encryption or any other information hiding tool, the existence of a design] to commit such offence or makes any representation which he knows to be false respecting such design,

If offence be committed - if offence be not committed -- shall, if that offence be committed, be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or, if the offence be not committed, with imprisonment of either description, for a term which may extend to three years; and in either case shall also be liable to fine.

Illustration -

A, knowing that dacoity is about to be committed at B, falsely informs the Magistrate that a dacoity is about to be committed at C, a place in an opposite direction, and thereby misleads the Magistrate with intent to facilitate the commission of the offence. The dacoity is committed at B in pursuance of the design. A is punishable under this section.

आईपीसी, 1860 (भारतीय दंड संहिता) की धारा 118 का विवरण - मृत्यु या आजीवन कारावास से दण्डनीय अपराध करने की परिकल्पना को छिपाना -

जो कोई मृत्यु या आजीवन कारावास से दण्डनीय अपराध का किया जाना सुकर बनाने के आशय से या सम्भाव्यतः तद्द्वारा सुकर बनाएगा यह जानते हुए;

ऐसे अपराध के किए जाने की परिकल्पना के अस्तित्व को किसी कार्य या लोप द्वारा या गूढ़लेखन के प्रयोग या जानकारी छुपाने के किसी अन्य उपाय द्वारा स्वेच्छया छिपाएगा या ऐसी परिकल्पना के बारे में ऐसा व्यपदेशन करेगा जिसका मिथ्या होना वह जानता है,

यदि अपराध कर दिया जाए - यदि अपराध नहीं किया जाए - यदि ऐसा अपराध कर दिया जाए, तो वह दोनों  में से किसी भांति के कारावास से, जिसकी अवधि सात वर्ष तक की हो सकेगी, अथवा यदि अपराध न किया जाए, तो वह दोनों में से किसी भांति के कारावास से, जिसकी अवधि तीन वर्ष तक की हो सकेगी, दण्डित किया जाएगा और दोनों दशाओं में से हर एक में जुर्माने से भी दण्डनीय होगा। 

दृष्टांत -

क यह जानते हुए कि ख स्थान पर डकैती पड़ने वाली है, मजिस्ट्रेट को यह मिथ्या इत्तिला देता है कि डकैती ग स्थान पर, जो विपरीत दिशा में है, पड़ने वाली है, और इस आशय से कि एतद्द्वारा उस अपराध का किया जाना सुकर बनाए मजिस्ट्रेट को भुलावा देता है। डकैती परिकल्पना के अनुसरण में ख स्थान पर पड़ती है। क इस धारा के अधीन दण्डनीय है।
